Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A shallow fjord area with coastal lagoons and saltmarshes (the latter habitat comprising less than 5% of the area of the IBA) in the western part of Nissum Bredning.



Key biodiversity
Formerly internationally important for wintering populations of Bucephala clangula, Mergus serrator and M. merganser but these were not recorded in significant numbers in the last midwinter counts in 1991.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The decrease in bird numbers may be the result of a fall in the birds' food supply of small fish and mussels due to water pollution from agricultural run-off.

National None International High13,570 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Nissum Bredning, 13,570 ha).
