Site description (2000 baseline)
A 10 km wide volcanic crater situated west of Lake Van (site 096). Three crater lakes are surrounded by low scrub; the cliffs of the crater walls reach 690 m above the crater floor. Nemrut lake (1,250 ha; 150 m deep) is largely unvegetated, is fed by springs and snowmelt, and freezes in winter. Ilýca lake (30 ha; 8 m deep) is fed by hot springs and supports reedbeds (Phragmites). Domestic stock graze the flatter parts of the crater.

Key biodiversity
Gyps fulvus also breeds.
