Site location and context
A tall mountain with densely forested valleys. The main human activities include forestry, livestock-farming and winter sports.
This is an important area for resident raptors, forest species and species associated with open montane habitats. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aquila heliaca,
Falco naumanni (non-breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include the construction of a ski centre and its associated infrastructure and more widespread tourism-based development. A dam is planned for the Papadia river. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

International Partial3 ha of IBA covered by Natural Monument (Pefkoto Beech Forest, 3 ha). 192 ha of IBA covered by Natural Monument (Almopia Forest, 192 ha). 3,775 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Ano Koryfis-Dragos-Ormas/Ormas-Sarakinon, 3,775 ha). 4,800 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Skopou, 4,800 ha). 192 ha of IBA covered by Biogenetic Reserve (Council of Europe) (Natural Monument of Mixed Forest Almopias Aridaias, 192 ha). 40,326 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Koryfes Orous Voras, 40,326 ha).
