Trigger species: Australasian Gannet

Besides the trigger species the following are likely to be breeding, resident or visitors to the island: Southern Black-backed Gull, White-fronted Tern, Mallard, Hedge Sparrow, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Yellowhammer, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, House Sparrow, Starling, Common Myna.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity

Human disturbance – Yes - Although Maori owned, and access controlled to some degree, visitors to the island may disturb birds in the gannet colony if approached too close.

Predation by alien species – Yes - Auckland Council together with the island’s owners undertake predator and pest management, however, re-invasion is a constant threat give the proximity of Aotea Great Barrier Island.
