Site location and context
This IBA is constituted of areas of hills with laurisilva forest and macaronesean woodland. Also some peatland is included.
One of the most important sites for the Azorean Wood Pigeon in all the archipelago.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The habitat is highly threatened by the continuous destruction of the vegetation and the introduction of invasive species. There are no censuses of Azorean Wood Pigeon, thus the site was identified based on the quality and extent of the available habitat for the species.
