Site location and context
A narrow strait including islands and peninsulas with coves, lagoons, saltmarshes, reedbeds, broadleaved forests, cultivated land and some scattered habitation.
Up to seven waterbird species are present in significant numbers during cold winters, totalling over 20,000 individuals. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including
Recurvirostra avosetta,
Sterna paradisaea and
S. albifrons.

International High35,060 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Lillebælt, 37,330 ha). 35,060 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Lillebælt, 35,060 ha).
