Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A large heathland with small conifer plantations, lakes, bogs and dunes.
The site was designated as a Special Protection Area in 1983 on the basis of breeding numbers of
Tringa glareola.
Tringa glareola,
Caprimulgus europaeus,
Lullula arborea and
Lanius collurio, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, currently breed at the site.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Several parts of the IBA have additional national protection. There are plans to raise water-levels at
Grærup Langsø lake. The spread of the introduced and invasive
Pinus mugo threatens the heathland habitat.

International High6,570 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Kallesmærsk Hede and Grærup Langsø, 6,570 ha).
