Site description (2009 baseline)
Located on the southern slopes of the central Himalayas, at the south-eastern tip of Jilung County. The IBA has high mountains and deep valleys, with dense forests of the following types: pine forest (1,800-2,400 m), coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest (2,400-3,200 m), alpine coniferous forest (3,200-4,000 m) and high-altitude scrub (4,000-4,500 m).
Key biodiversity
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Presbytis entellus (a primate endemic to the Himalayas), Ursus arctos, Selenarctos thibetanus, Ailurus fulgens, Moschus chrysogaster and Capricornis sumatraensis.
