Ilots rocheux de Rapa et Marotiri This is an IBA in Danger!

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2016 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('key species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Polynesian Storm-petrel Nesofregetta fuliginosa EN breeding (1989–1990) 35–199 breeding pairs A1, A4ii
Murphy's Petrel Pterodroma ultima LC breeding (1989–1990) 10–99 breeding pairs A1

Blue Noddy Anous ceruleus LC breeding (1989–1990) 250–700 breeding pairs A4i

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2016. The most recent assessment (2016) is shown below.

IBA conservation status
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2016 very unfavourable very high very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no population medium

State (condition of the key species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Polynesian Storm-petrel Nesofregetta fuliginosa 5 / 35 (individuals) 15 not assessed
Puffinus newelli 1 / 265 (breeding pairs) 1 very unfavourable

Pressure (threats to the key species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now whole population/area (>90%) moderate deterioration (10–30% in 3 generations) very high

Response (conservation actions taken for the key species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of site covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place very low
