Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A well-drained flood-plain overlain by clay soils, situated between Füzesabony and Jászkisér to the north of the River Tisza. The IBA includes extensive areas of arable land and saline grassland, with some forestry plantations. Human activities include sheep- and cattle-grazing.
An important area for steppic birds.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat to the site is agricultural intensification, with the introduction of irrigation and mechanized cultivation. Artificial nest-sites are provided for both raptors and
Coracias garrulus, and protection measures for
Otis tarda are in place through MME. Wetland restoration work has been undertaken, and a management plan exists for the area.
