Site location and context
Located on the southern slopes of the Qinling mountains, the IBA includes four protection stations and the adjacent areas. The main habitats are temperate montane broadleaf deciduous forest, broadleaf-coniferous mixed forest, evergreen forest and scrub, and less than 10% of the IBA is agricultural land.
Non-bird biodiversity: Giant Panda and Takin found in the reserve.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a nature reserve (29,240 ha) in 1979, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 1986. Foping was designated in 2004 as a ‘Biosphere Reserve’ under UNESCO’s Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme.
