Delta of the Kuban' river

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2007 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('key species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Mute Swan Cygnus olor LC passage (2007) 600–800 individuals B1i
Mute Swan Cygnus olor LC breeding (1996–2006) 150–200 breeding pairs B1i
Great Snipe Gallinago media NT passage (2007) 50–100 individuals A1
Pallas's Gull Larus ichthyaetus LC passage (2007) 650–800 individuals A4i, B1i
Caspian Tern Hydroprogne caspia LC passage (2006) 750–1,200 individuals A4i, B1i
Whiskered Tern Chlidonias hybrida LC breeding (1999–2006) 300–350 breeding pairs B1i
Sandwich Tern Thalasseus sandvicensis LC passage (2006) 1,500–1,750 individuals B1i
A4iii Species group - waterbirds n/a passage (2007) 28,500–35,200 individuals A4iii

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2007. The most recent assessment (2007) is shown below.

IBA conservation status
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2007 unfavourable high very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no habitat medium

State (condition of the key species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Marine Coastal/Supratidal moderate (70–90%) moderate (70–90%) unfavourable

Pressure (threats to the key species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Natural system modifications happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow deterioration (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Residential and commercial development happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow deterioration (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Energy production and mining happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow deterioration (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Human intrusions and disturbance happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow deterioration (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Biological resource use happening now some of population/area (10–49%) no deterioration (<1% over 3 generations) low
Pollution happening now few individuals/small area (<10%) slow deterioration (1–10% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the key species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Little/none of site covered (<10%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place very low
