Chishui Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Hushi, Chishui County, in north-western Guizhou. The IBA has well developed tropical broadleaf evergreen forests. The area has high biodiversity, including a high concentration of nationally protected plants such as Cyathea spinulosa, and the Guizhou endemic Camellia luteoflora.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Fokienia hodginsii and Alsophila spinulosa. Animals include Neofelis nebulosa, Selenarctos thibetanus, Capricornis sumatraensis, Moschus berezovskii, Manis pentadactyla and Macaca thibetana.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a county-level nature reserve in 1984, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (13,300 ha) in 1992.
