Site description (2002 baseline):
Site location and context
The site can be found in the northern end of the parish of Clarendon with Secondary forest, having fields and bamboo. Fairly small area of Forest reserve (219.74 ha). Access is to the area is through a main secondary road which passes through the middle of the area. Annual rainfall ranges from 1500mm - 2000mm. Nearby communities include Gattrymore and Brandon Hill.
The site is home to only a few of the endemic species and is characterised by those species which are tolerant to some forest disturbance and not dependent upon pristine forests. Species to be found include the Red - Billed Streamertail, and Yellow - shouldered Grassquit (endemics) and other species such as Greater Antillean Grackle (Resident) and Grey Kingbird (Summer migrant) are present
The Forestry department of Jamaica characterises the area as Secondary Forest with Fields and Bamboo, this is therefore indicative of an area affected by agricultural and other anthropogenic disturbances from neighbour human habitation.
The Forest reserves of Bull Head Mountain and Braes Head comprise the IBA site
