Site description (2024 baseline):
Site location and context
A small lake located in southern Finland near the municipality of Lempäälä.
One of the most important breeding sites in Finland for e.g. Black-headed Gull and Common Pochard. Also one of the best inland sites for migrating waders.
A shallow eutrophic lake surrounded by fields and human settlement. The open shores and particularly the small islet in the centre of the lake are the key breeding areas. The site has been subject to active management and restoration, including also constructing nesting sites for gulls, tern and ducks. A protected area but many recreational activities are allowed.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The quality of the site relies strongly on active management, which is done mostly by volunteers. Fighting the threats caused by eutrophication, overgrowth of the open areas, and alien predators needs continuous manpower, which is not guaranteed.
