Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be locally common in Liberia and Gabon, elsewhere uncommon probably owing to confusion with other species (del Hoyo et al. 1997).

Trend justification:

The species is tentatively assessed as being in decline due to habitat loss per Tracewski et al. (2016).
