Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be relatively numerous in virgin desert (Madge and Burn 1993).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to intensive irrigation and the loss and degradation of desert vegetation through fuel wood collection and overgrazing (Madge and Burn 1993).
