Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as very common in suitable habitat over much of the Indian Subcontinent, widespread and locally common in Bangladesh, local in Pakistan, rare in Bhutan andcommon in much of South-East Asia but uncommon on Java and Bali (del Hoyo et al. 2005).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
