Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be widespread and seemingly common in suitable habitat (del Hoyo et al. 1994). The population size in China has been estimated at c.10,000-100,000 breeding pairs (Brazil 2009).

Trend justification: The population is declining locally owing to ongoing habitat destruction and unsustainable levels of hunting (del Hoyo et al. 1994).
