Justification of Red List category
This large forest eagle is classified as Vulnerable on the basis of an estimated small population which is slowly declining through habitat loss and, locally at least, hunting. 



Population size: 3200-4000 mature individuals

Population trend: decreasing

Extent of occurrence (breeding/resident): 1,200,000 km2

Country endemic: no
