Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be locally common to abundant within its restricted range (del Hoyo et al. 1994, Fuller et al. 2000).
Trend justification: Tree cover loss within the range is currently estimated at 10-16% across three generations (Global Forest Watch 2021, using Hansen et al. [2013] data and methods disclosed therein). Assuming that population declines are roughly equivalent to the rate of forest loss, the species may be declining at <20% over three generations (19.56 years), however the species also inhabits open habitats and scrub so this may be an overestimation of population declines.
