Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be widespread and common in some areas (del Hoyo et al. 2001).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to pesticide run-off from adjacent farmland. It is shot as a pest at some trout hatcheries (del Hoyo et al. 2001).
