Aethopyga christinae and A. latouchii (del Hoyo and Collar 2016) were previously lumped as A. christinae following Sibley & Monroe (1990, 1993).

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is described as fairly common in South-East Asia (Cheke et al. 2001), while the population in China has been estimated at c.100-100,000 breeding pairs (Brazil 2009).
Trend justification: The population is suspected to be in decline owing to ongoing habitat destruction.
