Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but it is believed to be large as the species is described as 'common' in parts of Chile (del Hoyo et al. 1997).

Trend justification: The species was almost extirpated by Newcastle's Disease in 1954, but has since recovered (del Hoyo et al. 1997).
