Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be common in some parts of its range (del Hoyo et al. 1994, Fuller et al. 2000).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be declining owing to loss and fragmentation of habitat as well as some trapping for food and the cagebird trade (del Hoyo et al. 19940.
