Buff-crested Bustard Lophotis gindiana

Taxonomy

Taxonomic note
Lophotis gindiana (del Hoyo and Collar 2014) was previously placed in the genus Eupodotis.

Lophotis (Eupodotis) ruficrista, L. savilei and L. gindiana (Sibley and Monroe 1990, 1993) are retained as separate species contra Dowsett and Forbes-Watson (1993) who included savilei and gindiana as subspecies of E. ruficrista.

Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be common throughout its range except in Sudan where it is generally uncommon (del Hoyo et al. 1996).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be stable in the absence of evidence for any declines or substantial threats.
