Population justification: The global population size has not been quantified, but the species is reported to be abundant (del Hoyo et al. 1997), while national population sizes have been estimated at < c.100 introduced breeding pairs in Korea and c.100-10,000 introduced breeding pairs in Japan (Brazil 2009).

Trend justification: The population is suspected to be increasing as ongoing habitat degradation is creating new areas of suitable habitat.
