Justification of Red List category
This recently-split pigeon is restricted to a number of mostly small subpopulations on islands, although the largest of these is likely to exceed 1,000 mature individuals. It is inferred to be undergoing declines owing to the effects of hunting and habitat loss, and for these reasons has been classified as Near Threatened.
