The site comprises reedbeds, scrub and wet meadows alongside a canal, and adjoins the River Lek (an arm of the Rhine) south-west of the city of Utrecht. Human activities include reed-harvesting (`Other' land-use). This site, together with site 080, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL042) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
