Yancheng National Nature Reserve is located on the coast of central Jiangsu Province. The core area of the reserve is 13,800 ha. The coastline extends 583 km from north to south, with a typical width of between 5-10 km (the widest part is over 15 km, the narrowest part is below 2 km). The inter-tidal mudflats are growing eastwards because of siltation, at a rate of 50-200 m a year (about 33 km2/yr).
Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Hydropotes inermis and semi-wild Elaphurus davidianus.
