Site description (2000 baseline)
The Seeve area of the site is predominantly mesophile and humid grassland on peat soil, subject to periodic flooding. The Ilmenau area is a tidal-influenced marsh with mudflats, reedbeds (Phragmites) and mesophile grassland.

Key biodiversity
Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (breeding).
