Site description
The catchment area of two small rivers, the Wiltz and the Trattenerbach, with adjacent wet meadows, wetlands and small forests. The site was included within a larger IBA (formerly LU001) in the previous international IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).

Key biodiversity
The most important site in Luxembourg for Ciconia nigra; three pairs nest in large forests up to 20 km away but feed almost exclusively in this area. The IBA is also the only breeding site in the country for Aegolius funereus. Both species are listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive.
