Site description (baseline)
The IBA includes machair, lochs and shoreline habitats on the island of Benbecula.
First identified in 2000. Descriptive text and bird data refer to the 2000 Inventory.
Key biodiversity
Both Charadrius hiaticula (390 birds, 1991-1996, >1%) and Podiceps auritus (4 birds, 1%) winter in nationally important numbers, whilst Calidris alba (350 birds, 1991-1996, >1%) stop over on passage.
