It originates from the Egypt Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 609 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 293 m and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 26.01 and 26.24 °C.
