This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Canada Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 10757 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 523 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.27 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 4.61 and 6.63 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.68 and 3.32 mg/m3.

Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Funk Island, Wadham Islands and adjacent Marine Area include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Atlantic Puffin (LC) 35888-45458 individuals, Common Murre (LC) 475200-1128600 individuals and Northern Gannet (LC) 9113-11846 individuals.
