The site comprises predominantly deciduous forests between the Ruja and Seda rivers on the NE coast of lake Burtnieks and two patches of open fields and meadows on both flanks. A new site formed by the reduction of the former lake Burtnieks IBA, listed since 2000 [3, 1]. High protection level: there is a 95.6% overlap with Vidusburtnieks restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
