An extensive area of forestry plantations, heathland, fen and sand-drifts, situated in the centre of the country. Forest stands consist mainly of conifers but with some deciduous/mixed woodland, and are of various ages and under various forestry regimes. The site is bordered in the south by the River Rhine and in the east by the valley of the River IJssel. Small villages are excluded from the site.
