Site description
The site comprises flood-plain meadows along the lower reaches of the Liela Jugla and Maza Jugla rivers, which flow into Jugla lake, and a set of small ponds and lakes. The area usually floods in spring. The area is close to the city of Riga, being partly within its administrative boundaries, and consequently includes many houses and gardens.

Key biodiversity
According to reports, the flooded areas serve as a regular staging site for migrating waterbirds in spring, and Cygnus cygnus has been confirmed in important numbers. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (status unknown), Crex crex (breeding possible but not verified).
