Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the St Helena (to UK) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 19686 km2 and is 2428 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 4001 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.58 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 14.5 and 16.15 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.24 and 0.41 mg/m3.

8 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Inaccessible Island include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Northern Rockhopper Penguin (EN) 426060-456060 breeding pairs, Grey Petrel (NT) 30-30 individuals, Atlantic Petrel (EN) 300-600 breeding pairs, Great-winged Petrel (LC) 3000-9000 breeding pairs, Soft-plumaged Petrel (LC) 15600-154500 breeding pairs, Little Shearwater (LC) 15000-150000 breeding pairs, Great Shearwater (LC) 13500000-15000000 breeding pairs and Antarctic Tern (LC) 354-1585 breeding pairs.
