The lower course of a tributary of the River Po. The site is dominated by riparian and dry habitats, mainly wet woodlands (Populus and Salix), ponds, pseudo-steppe, gravel-pits, and sandy areas. The main land-use is gravel extraction.
A notable breeding site for birds of dry areas (especially Burhinus oedicnemus, Calandrella brachydactylata and Anthus campestris) and for terns (Sterna hirundo and S. albifrons).
