Protected areas
Soerjo is declared as a Grand Forest Park (25000 ha) based on Keppres No.29/1992 on 20 June 1992 which include Arjuno Lalijiwo Nature Reserve (4960 ha), declared based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.250/Kpts/Um/5/72 on 25 May 1972 (Anon 1997, Anon 1998).
Habitat and land use
Montain rainforest including fine examples of cemara forest (Casuarina junghuhnia). Other forest ecosystems include Festuca grassland and alpine vegetation over 3000 m (MacKinnon et.al.1982)
