A shallow partially reclaimed fjord area with reedbeds, meadows and agricultural areas.
In 1983, internationally important numbers of six waterbirds visited the site. Currently the site is an important staging area for Cygnus columbianus and Anser brachyrhyncus and in some years almost 20,000 individuals of these species have been recorded. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including Botaurus stellaris, Circus aeruginosus and Chlidonias niger. Breeding bird data from Vest Stadil Fjord are unavailable.
