This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Virgin Islands (to USA) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1027 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1574 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.87 and 28.05 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.07 and 0.39 mg/m3.
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Southwest, South Karst include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Sandwich Tern (LC) 907-1325 individuals and Roseate Tern (LC) 196-950 individuals.
