An alluvial plain situated east of Novi Becej, containing seasonal bodies of salt water. One of the larger lakes, Slano kopovo, supports vegetation characterized by salt-tolerant succulents (for example, Salicornia, Salsola and Suaeda). It varies from 30 ha to 100 ha in size, depending on underground water-levels. Arable land, pasture and meadows surround the depressions. Human activities include cattle-grazing.
The site is important for breeding and passage waterbirds. A total of 5,000-10,000 Grus grus migrate over the area, with some stopping to rest and feed. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Anser erythropus (wintering), Branta ruficollis (passage), Oxyura leucocephala (breeding), Aquila heliaca (passage) and Numenius tenuirostris (passage).
