A hilly area in southern Sicily, north of the coastal village of Sciacca. The main habitats are rocky cliffs, pastures and arable land. The main land-use is agriculture.
The most important breeding site for Falco naumanni in Sicily, and also important for other breeding raptors, especially Falco peregrinus and Falco biarmicus.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Important threats are: afforestation by the Regional Forestry Department (Corpo Forestale Regionale) of natural prairies where raptors, especially Falco naumanni, feed; disturbance to breeding raptors (and cases of illegal hunting and poisoning); the presence and activity of numerous quarries; heavy and uncontrolled hunting pressure.
