An open, low-lying area that comprises 27 fish-ponds of varying size, wet meadows, pasture and arable fields interspersed with water canals, bushes and solitary trees. The largest fish-pond contains three islets covered in dense Salix scrub and other ruderal vegetation.
An important site for breeding and passage waterbirds, holding 20,000 or more individuals on a regular basis. During autumn and early spring this is the most important roosting site in Slovakia for Circus cyaneus (150-200 individuals). Porzana parva, Recurvirostra avosetta, Limosa limosa, Chlidonias niger and Locustella luscinioides also breed. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (2-4 pairs), Crex crex (5 pairs).
