Site description (2000 baseline)
A fish-farm situated on the flood-plain of the River Olt. There are five large ponds and 9-10 smaller ones. The ponds have an extensive covering of reed Phragmites, bulrush Scirpus and other aquatic plants. Cultivated fields and patches of Salix scrub surround the ponds.
Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding and passage waterbirds, particularly herons, ducks and waders. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Phalacrocorax pygmeus (non-breeding) and Aythya nyroca (passage).
