Rosarito and Navalcán reservoirs-La Iglesuela (Tietar valley)


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The site includes a river and two reservoirs surrounded by large expanses of dehesa and scrub. There is some arable cultivation and sheep-grazed grassland.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for resident raptors and wintering waterbirds, particularly Grus grus.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The site is threatened by a massive dam project. Disturbance affects Grus grus around the Rosarito reservoir. The use of poisoned baits is a threat to Aquila adalberti.



Protected areas
National None International Partial36,620 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Valle del Tiétar-Embalses de Rosarito y Navalcán, 53,167 ha).
