A reservoir with a planted scrub fringe and a Fagus wood in the south. Areas of open water remain ice-free throughout the winter.

National High International High165 ha of IBA covered by Landscape Protected Area (Auenverbund Eder, 4,900 ha). 165 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Stausee von Affoldern, 165 ha). IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
