Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Disputed Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 2385 km2 and is 266 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 30 to 1921 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 28.13 and 28.22 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.14 and 0.17 mg/m3.

1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Pulau Layang-Layang include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Great Crested Tern (LC).
